Many 'Occult-related' spiritual paths such as Wicca and broadly generalizing, 'NeoPaganism' in general, emphasize casting a (protective) circle before commencing any practical 'work (ie: "spells," etc.).'

It is also possible to enclose such circle in a further protective square... as well as it may be that the square is what you needed to do all along :)

If you use a popular web-search engine (AltaVista *is* still alive) and search on 'Rose Cross Ritual,' you will find results that indicate that the 'Pentagram Ritual' is protective, it also alerts Astral Critters that "I'm Back...."

I strongly recommend that you research both this and the 'Pentagram Ritual' closely; they are the foundations of *all* practical work.

Antioch College Kettering Hall, revisited...

This is a photo of Antioch College' Kettering Hall, their Science Building. I was a student there, from 1978 to 1982, when I graduated.

[I stand corrected... an Antioch person contacted me and refreshed my memory. While the building was, in fact, donated by kettering, he refused the attribution, saying: "This is a place for people to work, not a monument to anybody (or words to that effect.)]

Antioch is, as it ever has, going thru a management crisis.

The Idiots want to close the College, in favor of the "University," which IMHO, always sucked. The College needs to close the University, but that's a very long story.

Anyhow, I have no idea when this photo was taken. I inherited it from my Uncle, who taught there, but was fired for being "too tough." If anyone would care to take a guess as to the year / make / model of the automobile in the picture, please have at it :)

According to my resources, and attention to Rumor, this photo is 'rare to nonexistent.' When I attended the College, the roof was flat gravel, recessed well below the peak roof in the photo. Rumor has it that an experiment gone awry blew it off...

[I stand corrected here, too... in 1959, the attic caught fire (electrical?); when the building was repaired the former attic was turned into a fourth floor...]

If you don't know who Charles Kettering was, Wiki or Google on the name. He Invented the modern automotive ignition system, as well as the 'self starter; ie: the starter motor.'

Some time ago, I posed the age-old Question, "Should containers of 'Personal Lubricant' be equipped with integral flashlights?"

Well, this little device looks like it's the answer! It's about an inch and a half long, and has velcro enough to fit nicely on the cap of a bottle of 'Astro-Glide.'

                           THE LAW OF RESISTANCE

What you resist, you become. You carry an energy pattern of what you resist
in your energy body. It acts like a magnet attracting what you resist. By
trying to shield out what you resist the energy pattern pulls and then
pushes what you resist automatically. The pull and push often creates a
silent battle within yourself. You are witnessing the electromagnetism of
energy. On a feeling level, your entire physical body will tighten up with
resistance. Your lips will purse, your body will become tense. In extreme
cases of resistance, the energy in your aura will flatten and stiffen,
creating an atmosphere of rebellion around you. Everything will irritate
you, because it sticks to you because of the law of attraction. Therefore
what you resist persists.

                           THE LAW OF ATTRACTION

Like energy attracts like and complementary energy. Whatever the energy

Life in the Country, Continued...

Country living sounds pretty rough so far, doesn't it? Actually, it's not too bad; it's quiet, with few other than self-imposed interruptions.

It's not like it's an idyllic paradise -- there's work to be done, and not the kind that most city people are used to, but I'll get to that to that later. However, there are some things you never want to see. A 'wildfire' is one of them.

My partner Verde and I were coming home from town on day earlier this Spring, and saw smoke on the horizon... not little wisps, but voluminous plumes... we both said: "This is not good." We knew from the direction that it was not our house or barn, but it was still "not good."

As we got closer, and rounded a bend, we saw that a neighbors barn was on fire. Verde pulled over, and called "911" on her cell. The dispatcher told her that "It had been reported" and we resumed our progress homeward. At this point I had no camera "with me."

When Verde Called 911, only the barn was on fire... when we parked the car at home, we saw that both our dogs had noticed the fire, and were worried... at this time sparks had lit the tall pasture grass. I ran in to teh house to call 911 again, only at first to be disconnected. Calling again, and receiving no 'Hello,' I recited my name and address and got an answer: "It's been turned in."

Between '402 and '404, about 40 seconds elapsed -- about the amount of time it takes my Kodak DC 215 to 'cycle.'

At this point, no fire apparatus had arrived on the scene. We were rather worried, as the wind was blowing the fire toward us.

Now I know how the folk out West feel...

This pic is looking about 90 degrees to the right of '404. By now, Fire Apparatus was beginning to arrive, but the fire had already "jumped the road (actually, it went under a culvert.)"

You cannot see the fire now, as it is in a valley between our farm and the neighbors'. Firefighters had now begun to arrive. The line of trees in the right of the pic is our 'lane,' or driveway.

Remember the 'lane?' By this time, most of the red on the horizon is the lights of emergency vehicles.... we had about 5 fire trucks in the lane by now...

Here, for brushfires, they use a kinda modified pickup truck, with a water tank and a 'booster reel (spray hose). Thinking of buying one for here -- seriously :)

OK, so... they stopped the fire about 200' from the house. We are thankful... only about 60 acres burned. Next time you hear of a 'Big Fire,' do please say a prayer, burn a candle... whatever is your path ...

I realize that I've not put any pics of people in this blog... that will come. I prefer to catch people innocently off-guard rather than pose them... later, hope you enjoy !

Cityscapes

I've been taking photographs since I was a kid. I have a collection of cameras ranging from a 16mm Bolex to an 8x10 "View Camera." I've also travelled a lot throughout the US and Canada, always with some form of picture taking device. I learned "hands-on" photography in the field and in the darkroom; mainly B&W and Color using the "Kwik-Print" process. Digital photography I'm still new at, as living in the Country I had to give up my darkroom -- not enough water :( Eventually I'll put links in so that you know what a "Kwik-Print" is!)

To me, a City is a fragmented entity. Cities are non-cohesive. You can go from 'highrise' buildings to rundown poverty in a few hundred feet. So my aesthetic of the Cityscape is one of fragmentation.

These pictures were taken in Atlanta, GA, USA around 1980 or 1981. The one on the right is of the Peachtree Building, the left of a building I don't remember reflected in the glass of the Georgia Light and Power building.

These are from a holiday display -- shot late at night with very long exposure times. I love to do this kind of work, but it helps to bring a like-minded friend, and good coffee (or a flask of good Brandy) to help with conversation. With 'Bracketed Exposure' these pics probably took an hour each to expose.

I think Cities reflect themselves. What do you think? This last picture was taken in Boston, Massachussetts.

Life in the Country

Living in the country is entirely different than city life. One has to be prepared for things that city folk seldom think about. These pictures are from December 23, 2004, when South Central Ohio was hit by a massive ice storm. My partner and I were in bed that night, listening to the sound of tree limbs snapping and cracking. Over 200 of the power company's utility poles snapped, and we were without electricity for a week. To us, that means no furnace, no stove and no water.... We do, however, have a nice fireplace, and plenty of firewood -- and kerosene lamps and heaters. We were not cold, although it was a bit of a chore going down to the spring to get water. The ground was a tad slippery. Hot chocolate tastes better when it's made in the fireplace, anyway! :)

In my OkCupid! profile they ask the "Six Most Important Things You Couldn't Live Without." One of my answers was 'extra car batteries and inverters...' So we were able to get on the interwebby thing using a notebook. We could even do radio and TV. We were prepared. Many were not. We heard a news story about someone who had "no heat, one gallon of water (the county water quit when their diesel generators ran out of fuel), one candle... and a baby."

SHAMELESS POLITICAL RANT: Our wonderful Republican Governor, Robert Taft was visiting Japan -- and didn't bother to even phone home.
